About Us

Co. Westmeath Tourism Ltd, was set up in October 2008. The company   is based in Belvedere House, Gardens and Park, Mullingar. The company is involved with tourism marketing and product development at local level and is  guided by  regional and national tourism policies.

The work of the company is progressed in conjunction with the Community and Enterprise section of Westmeath County Council.The company  has representation from the various tourism strands, both trade and agencies including Westmeath County Council. The Chairman is Mr. John Dully.

Company Activities

In 2009 Co. Westmeath Tourism Ltd:

  • Co-ordinated familiarisation trips for local hotel staff to local visitor attractions for knowledge transfer purposes to tourists visiting the county. 
  • Managed festival and event training for local organisers in conjunction with Failte Ireland.
  • Produced 3,000 Westmeath Guides containing details of accommodation, attractions, activities and events valid for 2009 & 2010 as a self-financed project. 
  • Promoted Westmeath online through continuous updating of the website www.discoverireland.ie/westmeath
  • Organised the participation of local food and craft producers group in the popular  Midland Home and Garden Show held at Belvedere House, Gardens and Park.
  • Actively assisted in the organisation and execution of the successful  Discover Days in Mullingar and Athlone and local events during National  Bike Week.
  • Promoted Westmeath as a visitor destination at national events including Irish National Country Fair, National Community Games AGM and Dublin Horse Show. Co operative marketing with Heritage Island and Mid Ireland Tourism marketing bodies regarding the distribution of the Westmeath Guide was also carried out.
  • Pioneered a new food event called  “Ready, Steady Cook… Westmeath Style!”  to highlight restaurants and food producers from the county in an innovative way.
