The scope of the Scheme is to provide new Water Treatment Plant, to connect to existing Athlone distribution system and to extend to the South Westmeath area including Moate, Kilbeggan, Tyrrellspass and Rochfordbridge.
An Bord Pleanála has approved the water abstraction order for Killinure Lough. In light of the significant contribution that the Council would have to make to the cost of the Scheme and the possibility of taking some supply to serve parts of Westmeath from the Proposed Dublin Water Supply, the scope of the South Westmeath Scheme is being reviewed.
Though not included in the above Needs Assessment for 2010-2012, the Council remains committed to advancing sewerage Schemes at Coole, Delvin, Finea, Milltownpass and Rathowen, and these Schemes will be considered for inclusion in the next phase of WSIP funding
