Water Metering

Government Policy is to charge non-domestic (business) customers for water services in accordance with the EU policy the application of the "polluter pays" principle, included in the EU Water Framework Directive.

Westmeath County Council is required to apply charges to the non-domestic sector on the basis of the "water in/water out" principle, i.e. recovery of the full cost of all water services (water supply and waste water collection and disposal) by means of a unit charge in respect of metered water supply.

Current charges are as follows:

  • Water per cubic metre €1.09
  • Waste Water per cubic metre €1.21
  • Consolidated Charge €2.30

The Consolidated Charge is applicable where the consumer is connected to the sewerage network in addition to the water network.

In addition there is an annual standing charge of €74.88 for ½ “and ¾ meters and €242.60 for meters greater than ¾“

The implementation of metering of non-domestic water supply connections represent a fairer way for non-domestic customers in County Westmeath to pay for water.

Any new or existing customer wishing to set up, alter or close their water charge account should contact our Finance Section (Water Rates) County Buildings Mullingar.
