County Council
The County Council is made up of all 23 elected members from each of the five electoral areas in Westmeath. It holds its annual general meeting in June of each year. It's monthly meetings are usually held on the last Monday of each month except in August and in the case of clashes with public holidays. The venue for Council meetings is normally the Council Chambers at County Buildings, Mullingar. A full schedule of meetings is available here.
Council meetings are attended by the elected members from all five electoral areas as well as the Co. Manager and senior council officials. Members of the public may also attend meetings as can members of the media. Council meetings are conducted by the Mayor in accordance with a set of standing orders which sets out the order of business.
Meetings of the County Council
The Council is obliged by law to hold an annual general meeting and a budget meeting. In addition the Council meets monthly - usually on the last Monday of the month.
The monthly meetings provide a general forum where your elected representatives discuss issues relevant to the well-being of the county.
